You can be honest, we know you don’t enjoy using microforms for research. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the addition of Early American Imprints online.

Series I: Evans (1639-1800) and Series II: Shaw-Shoemaker offer an extensive collection of books, broadsides, pamphlets and images from the 17th and 18th century life. The imprints are invaluable research aids on almost any facet of early American life, including agriculture, foreign relations, literature, and witchcraft. The two series include more than 36,000 full-text works and 2,400,000 images.

As always, if you would like help using the Early American Imprints, feel free to ask a reference librarian.

The New York Times reports that a group of committed volunteers is reading the classics aloud and making them available for free download as audiobooks:

“LibriVox is the largest of several emerging collectives that offer free or inexpensive audiobooks of works whose copyrights have expired, from Plato to The Wind in the Willows… ‘The principles of the project are to be totally noncommercial, totally ad free, totally volunteer and totally public domain,’ [LibriVox’s founder, Hugh McGuire] said. Readers can volunteer at the Web site, librivox.org.”
