Two pieces of good news about UW master’s theses:

1) Starting this year, all UW theses will be submitted and stored electronically. You can access .pdf versions of UW dissertations and theses from Digital Dissertations, available through the UW Libraries’ website under Articles & Databases.

2) The UW Libraries are digitizing old theses. About 200 per week are copied into electronic format and appear in Digital Dissertations as they are completed.

This is all great news for researchers and librarians, as the old print copies of theses were prone to destruction, whether by water, fire, or smudge-y erasable bond.  Plus, with electronic copies, you can read a thesis from home while wearing pajama pants, rather than reading it on microfilm in the basement of Coe.

If you have any trouble finding a thesis or dissertation, let us know!

On March 1st, the UW Libraries begin moving bound periodicals published before 2006 (aka old print journals) to the Library Annex. Do not worry! These journals are still available for use. If the article you need is at the Library Annex, just fill out the electronic request form. Student workers will send you an electronic copy of the article you need, and they are super-speedy about it!

Moving journals to the Library Annex is all part of our ongoing planning process for the ILLC building project. Please contact us at 766-2070 or coeref@uwyo.edu if you have any questions or concerns about finding journals.

If you are like me, the shortest month of the year feels like a very long month right about now. I’m starting to suspect that snow will be on the ground until May.

These words from Albert Camus bring me hope as the Laramie winter starts to drag:

In the midst of winter,

I found there was,

within me,

an invincible summer.

Keep your chin up, spring is coming!Crocus_vernus_1.jpg

Your library blogger is holding her breath with anticipation for this week’s Saturday Night Live. The show will be hosted by the hilarious Rainn Wilson of The Office. And the musical guest? Canadian rockers Arcade Fire, who may indeed be the greatest band alive and certainly the band most likely to perform with a hurdy gurdy and an accordion on national television.

After the show, you will probably want to visit Prospector and check out The Office and grab an Arcade Fire album or two. True fans of Rainn Wilson will want to reminisce about his work in Six Feet Under, all seasons available from the UW Libraries audio visual department. Delightful!

Here is an advance taste of what waits for you Saturday night. Leave a comment about the show!
