Coe Library keeps changing as our construction project progresses. In good news this week, Level 5 (the level formerly known as the 4th floor) has been reconfigured for quiet study, including two new group study rooms. Let us know what you think of the new setup!

From our construction guru, the official description:

In order to provide students with a better study environment during summer construction projects, UW Libraries has reconfigured Level 5 as the new Quiet Study floor. The extensive remodeling of Coe Level 5 was completed last week, and the new Quiet Study Floor is comprised entirely of student tables and study carrels, most of them near power outlets for laptop usage. Student tables along the northern perimeter of Level 5 are adjacent to natural light and a northerly view of campus and the Sherman Hills.

Level 5 also features two new group study rooms (#439 and #440) that can be utilized on a “first come-first served” basis for larger student groups (up to 8 people per room).

Those of you interested in Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts will be happy to learn that you can now view over 24,000 digital images of manuscript drawings and paintings from the Bodleian Library’s collection via ARTStor. According to the ARTStor database:

With more than 10,000 volumes, the Bodleian Library’s Department of Special Collections and Western Manuscripts has one of the greatest collections of Western Medieval manuscripts in the world… ARTstor has digitized virtually all of the illuminated manuscript leaves from Bodleian manuscripts through the 16th century, as well as selected 19th- and 20th- century manuscripts in the Medieval tradition. The collection also includes significant bindings, illuminated initials, and text pages. The present collaboration has made this rich body of visual material and related scholarship available online and at high resolution for the first time.

If you are on campus or logged into the library’s proxy server from off campus, you have full access to the ARTStor collection.

Prospector addicts, take heart! Our courier arrived today with a fresh load of Prospector items. You can expect items to continue arriving all week; check your email for updates.

Please continue ordering more books, movies and music from Prospector as usual. We believe that the delivery issues are resolved.

If you spent the past few days wondering “when on earth will my Prospector items arrive?” you are not alone.

The courier service which delivers items from Colorado to UW experienced problems this week. We hope to receive a shipment again on Monday.

Update!  Normal delivery will be slower to resume than we thought.  You might want to use our Request It service to ensure timely delivery of your items instead of Prospector until our Courier situation is resolved.  Thanks for your patience!

Please continue ordering items and we anticipate that normal delivery will resume next week. (p.s. This is kind of good news for some patrons like me who keep forgetting to return their overdues and therefore can not check out new items regardless!)
