New York Times reporter Felicity Barringer will answer the question “What would a green economy look like?” from 12:20 – 1:15 p.m. Thursday, September 25th in the Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballrooom. Barringer is the keynote speaker at the 8th annual Consumer Issues Conference and she is a national correspondent for the paper of record. The event is free and open to the public.

From energy to detergents, there are new ideas and environmentally friendly alternatives becoming more readily available across the globe. This talk will trace the changing political dynamics of the environmental movement, which emerged from a largely anti-corporate stance to one where today, Carl Pope of the Sierra Club is giving a shout out to oil magnate and swift boater, T. Boone Pickens because of his wind proposals. We will explore new ways everyone—with or without government incentives—can make green choices every day that make both environmental and economic sense.

Librarians from UW rode in Blackhawk helicopters this weekend as part of the Wyoming Rendezvous tour of the state for new faculty. Jim Honour maintained his composure, while your humble blogger smiled like a nervous 5 year old as we waited for take off in the National Guard helicopter in Cheyenne.

Other sites on the Rendezvous tour included the SAREC agricultural research station in Lingle, the women’s prison in Lusk, the Black Thunder coal mine outside of Gillette, and the UW/Casper College Outreach Center. I think I can speak for both Jim and myself when I say it was a most fun weekend out in the state!  A huge thank you to the organizers and sponsors.
