New Addition of Coe Library about to be “Topped Off”

The steel-beam infrastructure of the new addition to Coe Library is just about complete. People in the construction business like to refer to this stage as “topped off”, meaning that the new building is out of the ground and structurally complete from bottom to top.

In celebration of this occasion, University Libraries and FCI Construction are jointly providing a “Topping Off” ceremony on the Union Terrace. The event will feature delicious food, a great view of the new project, and the opportunity to put your signature on a steel beam that will permanently be installed inside the new Coe Library building.

Please join us in celebrating the “Topping Off” of the new Coe Library addition:

And the floors, they are a’changing…to levels

Effective Summer 2008, please note that all floors in Coe Library will begin following a new numbering system, changing from the current Basement / First Floor / Second Floor / Third Floor designations to Level 1 / Level 2 / Level 3 / Level 4 designations. Simply put, there will no longer be a Basement designation in Coe Library, as that floor will be referred to as Level 1. The main floor at ground level will become Level 2, and what we have previously referred to as the “2nd Floor / 3rd Floor / 4th Floor / 5th Floor”, will be referred to as Level 3 / Level 4 / Level 5 / Level 6. The new nomenclature for the entire Coe Library building is mandated by UW Facilities, for accuracy of directions during an emergency.
